Company History
Folio Works was founded in 1990 by Ian Bailey and Gary Chalk. They produced the wargame rules Fantasy Warlord and planned to publish a sci-fi miniatures wargame called High Command which was announced but never materialised.
Two sets of Fantasy Warlord figures were produced: the first under the Folio Works banner and the second under license from Alternative Armies. The two are distinguished by their packaging: the Alternative Armies figures were released in standard blister packs and the Folio Works figures were released in skin packs.
A range of miniatures was produced for High Command: these figures were available directly from Folio Works and were also released in skin packs.
Alternative Armies retained the rights to the Fantasy Warlord figures that they had created and those figures are still available from them upon request. The Folio Works figures were sold to Mayhem Miniatures. Mayhem was in turn acquired by Kennington Miniatures in 2000, and Kennington appears to have turned into SHQ Miniatures. It isn't clear how much of the original ranges Mayhem may have released, but only a small portion of the original ranges have been re-issued by Kennington/SHQ: see shqminiatures.co.uk. The figures were distributed in Europe (Benelux) by MBM Models [4] at one point.
