Cautions: The collection is sorted not by name, but by unpainted visual appearance, in this case, that of half-human peoples (regardless of size). The following are human×(single) animal mergers. Where a species is legendary, as in ancient mythology, we’ve provided the appropriate links to those galleries. For multiple-animal mergers, see Modern RPG Creature Creations or Mythological Creatures until we have a separate page worked out for such Chimaera. See also Lycanthropes for weres under metamorphosis.

To use this key, compare the ratio of human to animal parts, considering these five elements: head, torso, forearms (incl. wings, flippers, etc.), legs, tails (tail-less being considered humanoid). If three out of five are animal, then it’s mostly beast. If two out of five are animal, it’s mostly Humanoid. Sentience seems to be determined by the combination of humanoid heads and humanoid forearms (due to the hands). Some species have joined double-torsos with two waists, as in a centaur (not only does the human part have a waist, but so does the horse body). These are considered neither human-torsoed nor beast torsoed, but a separate condition of “Double-Waisted`(double-forearm set implicated). With other species, the torso ends at a single waist and does not continue to the rump, as in the mermaid and the faun. We’ve designated these as “Split Single-Waisted`` (single-forearm set implicated). Although a full torso that is either human or animal also is single-waisted, we don’t include them under this special heading. At this point, we have not differentiated between hands and forearms and feet and legs. If it makes a difference, ie. if the creature has tentacles for arms ending in human hands, consider the arms as human, because the hand manipulation will reflect most of the sentient function. Same goes for the feet - if it’s a human with duck feet, consider him to have duck legs as well. Eventually, we should get around to this discrimination and one for Necks. Also not done to date is a section for non-real animals that have no tails (a tail-less lion, for instance); real animals that are tail-less are found in Hazardous Natural Lifeforms. Since this collection will exceed the page length limit, links will be provided for each category as they become overlarge. Also, the collection cannot be expected to be kept up to date, as it is not the main purpose of this wiki to indulge the viewer with these special galleries; hence, a proper search should ensue if your figure cannot be quickly identified from this gallery.

To find the identity of the figure: Simply click on the thumbnail, then, on the page with the pic, scroll down to see what links to that pic and follow the links.

Editors: Please observe the rules and requests at the top of the edit page.

Sculptors: Take note what categories seem neglected!

Collectors: Enjoy the eye candy!

We apologize for the complexity of this scheme. We will be working on a clickable dichotomous taxonomic key soon!

Humanoid-headed Creatures w. Animal Limbs/Wings (usually highly sentient)

It makes sense that having no hands would make most of these cerebral creatures capable of magic. For those that have human arms and other animal limbs, they'd be even more enabled.

Animal-headed & -armed Beasts w. some Humanoid Parts (if sentient, usually barbaric)

Having to do without fine-motor skills these creatures rely more on brute strength like their true Animal relatives. Most probably couldn’t survive - at least not without magic, and that, under bestial control is more than a little frightening.

Headless Horrors (definitely not sentient)

A catch-all section for magical humanoid-animal crosses that have no apparent minds, which implies either a hidden brain casing; without a face for sensory organs, this implies magical or at least psychic abilities. Y’Golonac would fall into this category, and it`s a Cthulhu Mythos deity.
